End Of The World Auto Loan Promotion

Sometimes the best ideas are free. In December of 2012 there was major media hype surrounding the “end of the world” because of the Mayan calendar. We decided to capitalize on the media hype with an “End of the World” Auto Loan special. We offered to forgive any loan payments on loans made between December 3rd and December 21st 2012, IF the Mayan Calendar prediction was true and the world did end. Not only did the world not end, but for zero investment, the $50.7 million asset Latitude 32 Credit Union received just over $52,000 in media coverage in their local market (and nationally). Additionally, Auto Loans during the month of December were up 28% from their normal volume.

    Multi-Credit Union Cooperative Media Campaign

In 2012, The South Carolina Credit Union League engaged your marketing co. to present a new state-wide campaign to the credit unions of South Carolina. After several years of a non-performing program, your marketing co. met with credit unions from throughout the state to establish campaign goals and the necessary components of the new campaign. The MADTAG (Making a Difference) campaign launched in February 2012. Spending only $7,000, the participating credit unions collaborated with the League to provide free gas at specified gas stations throughout the state. The $7,000 in free gas resulted in just over $240,000 in earned media from television, radio, and newspaper around South Carolina, promoting the positive message of credit unions “Making a Difference.” Results in 2013 were even better. For an investment of $8,000 over four days towards gas for 400 hundred drivers, the Credit Unions of South Carolina received an estimated $272,000 in earned media.

    One-Day Loan Promotions

How can a “small” credit union make a big impact with members and on the bottom line? Creativity. Last year we helped the $38.1 million asset ElecTel Cooperative FCU book $1.7million in loans as part of several “One Day Loan Promotions.” No media was bought, and no expenses were incurred to promote this with the exception of printing several flyers for the branches and postings on Facebook and the credit union website. Members were offered the opportunity to take advantage of these one day loan promotions by pre-applying in the days leading up to the promotion. How did members react? In one promotion alone, the “Green Wednesday” one day loan promotion, proceeding “Black Friday” ElecTel Cooperative FCU loaned over $74,000 in one day. For the “Lead Day” loan promotion, ElecTel Cooperative loaned out $465,000 in one day. The most successful one day loan promotion? St. Patricks Day. Over $890,000 was loaned out in one day. The loan promotions continue into 2015!

Palmetto First: A Promise That Delivered Results

After spending several years looking for just the right messaging, Palmetto First FCU brought the YMC team on board to help make an impact. Rather than a catchy phrase bashing the for-profit financial institutions, we embarked on a mission to promise consumers in Florence SC a place where they could save money on the financial services they needed. Without advertising a rate or mentioning service, Palmetto First saw big results in 2014. While many of their peers saw stagnant numbers through the year, Palmetto First beat the odds. How did Palmetto First accomplish this? Through a combination of consistent marketing and an engaged front-line staff. The strategy utilized a combination of new digital mediums along with some traditional methods, combined with a credit union team who believed their brand promise and delivered big results for their members.

Latitude 32 Credit Union: A Fresh Approach

After a major rebrand in 2012, Latitude 32 Credit Union needed a fresh message. Located in a market sandwiched between three larger credit unions and a plethora of for-profit financial institutions Latitude 32 needed to find a niche not being served, and go all in. Throughout 2014, Latitude 32 focused on consumers only being served by predatory lenders within the Charleston, South Carolina market by offering a “Better Banking Attitude.” For consumer often shamed by and turned away from traditional financial institutions, the “Better Banking Attitude” offered by Latitude 32 Credit Union was a breath of fresh air. Loans were refinanced away from predatory lenders, thousands of dollars were saved by consumers, and Latitude 32 had a record year in terms of loan growth, members growth, and a healthy bottom line. The recipe for success was finding relevance, creating a message for the target market, and the Latitude 32 team making good on the promise when consumers acted on the marketing.

  • Banking In Your Boxers

    Banking In Your Boxers

    Carolina Collegiate Federal Credit Union

    Banking In Your Boxers

In 2014, Carolina Collegiate needed a way to turn a variety of challenges into opportunities. Within a 60 day window the main branch would be closing and torn down in favor of a student housing project. Couple that with a re-launch of the online bill-pay product that would force current users to re-add all of their accounts payable information AND the launch of a brand new app replacing the current one, and you have the potential to have some very unhappy members.

Rather than the normal features/benefits campaign a traditional financial services brand would embark on, Carolina Collegiate took this campaign on a more humorous route. A series of short videos were featured on Pandora and YouTube pre-roll advertising, as well as digital member communications. The videos put a humorous spin on the subject at hand, while educating members on the new state-of-the-art features not available at many other financial institutions.

The results? Goals were beat by over 100% and the myriad of member complaints that could have come in did not. Over half of all members are now using e-services. The campaign was so successful it was featured several times in trade publications such as Credit Union Journal, Credit Unions Times, and CUinsight. Pandora also did a case study on the campaign to replicate it’s success with other clients.
